"Some told me along time ago the only responsibility a work of art has is to evoke an emotion. I paint places of whimsy and beauty, of gentleness and good feelings. I paint places where I can see myself visiting and staying awhile, and I hope you the viewer will be drawn there too."
I knew from a very young age that I was destined to be an artist, even before I knew what being an artist really meant. I was born into a large family in a rural setting in Jamestown, North Dakota. My first real creative outlet was a craft class in the seventh grade and I was hooked. This eventually led to obtaining a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Dickinson State University in Dickinson, North Dakota. My life's journey has been aimed towards the single goal of pursuing a career as an artist. I reside and have my studio in the beautiful state of Colorado in the city of Grand Junction.
The creative process for me has endless possibilities that are why I believe I am a multi-media artist. I have worked in many mediums, but my first love is painting. I have used acrylics for years and enjoy its versatility and its rapid drying time. Drawing with pen and inks and making collages are my next choice. As in painting they are a catalyst to taking the wonderful journeys into my mind and having a total sense of peace and well being. On the other hand, at times I feel the need to build things. I either work in clay or wood. With such an abundance of discarded items out in the world, recycled materials play a big part in the construction of my sculptures and functional art pieces. Found objects such as a part of an old chair or a great piece of cloth can be all inspiring and when put together can take on a new life of their own.
